Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, quiet town. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is an extensive part that stretches from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. But this isn't the truth. Brugel grew in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. At the beginning of her life she wanted to be professional performer, however an unexpected increase in her height made it difficult. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I outgrew my male companions, I quit. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. As for the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who encouraged her to go in this direction. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the main part for Anne of Green Gables after she auditioned for. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work been featured on both the small and large screen. The most notable was her fame when she was offered the character of Rita in the award-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian of the Season 1 actors of the series and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
